Performers: Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Children’s Choir and Chamber Choir
Directed by Debra Shearer
Erica Tam, Piano

If I had to choose one word to describe the experience that this collection of songs provides, I would choose “knowing”. In the process of grasping the rich metaphors of each piece, one can feel the young voices singing with confidence and with mature expression, as if each poetic experience had truly changed their souls.
- Gerardo Dirie, from the liner notes

The Indiana University Children’s Choir comprises six choirs for children from kindergarten through high school. All children, no matter what their training, can find a place in one of these programs. The Indiana University program for young singers began in 1980 under Mary Goetze, and for nearly a quarter century, has brought to children of Southern Indiana the opportunity to sing challenging music from all over the world. The Chamber Choir has traveled extensively and recently performed at Carnegie Hall. Children from these choirs have had the opportunities, available only at a major school of music, to perform in operas and in large-scale choral productions, including the Midwestern premier of El Nino by John Adams.
